Assisted Suicide is Legal
2025—H75, which would allow those with less training than physicians with an MD or DO degree (naturopathic physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants) to determine patient eligibility and prescribe lethal drugs, is introduced to the Committee on Health Care; no action has been taken.
2023—S26 /H190, which remove the residency requirement for patients to receive physician-assisted suicide, were introduced. H190 passed both chambers and was signed by the Governor in May 2023.
2022—S-74 (enacted as Act 97) removed requirement that physician examine the patient in person (allowing telemedicine for prescribing lethal drugs); removed 48-hour wait before writing the prescription; and broadens immunity for those “acting in good faith” with the law.

2015—S108 (Act 27) removed sunset clause from the assisted suicide law.
2013—S77 (Act 39), called the “Patient Choice at End of Life Act,” which legalized physician-assisted suicide, passes both chambers and is signed by Governor Shumlin.
