Assisted Suicide is Not Legal
2025—A136 /S138 (“Medical Aid in Dying Act”) which would legalize physician-assisted suicide are introduced in the Assembly and Senate. A136 passed the Assembly and moved to the Senate, where it passed on 6/9. It is now headed to Governor Kathy Hochel. This radical bill has no waiting period for obtaining lethal drugs and no residency requirement, setting New York up to be an international assisted suicide tourism destination, preying on vulnerable people. 2023-2024—A995 /S2445 (“Medical Aid in Dying Act”) which would legalize physician-assisted suicide, are introduced in 2023 and carried over to 2024 where they fail to advance from their respective committees after being amended.
2021-2022—A4321 /S6471 (“Medical Aid in Dying Act”), which would legalize physician-assisted suicide, are introduced; they stall in their respective Health Committees.
2019-2020—A2694 /S3947 (“Medical Aid in Dying Act”), which would legalize physician-assisted suicide, fails to advance.
2017-2018—A2383 /S3151 (“Medical Aid in Dying Act”), which would legalize physician-assisted suicide, fails to advance.
2015-2016—A10059 /S7579 (“Medical Aid in Dying Act”), which would legalize physician-assisted suicide, are introduced. A10059 was voted out of the Assembly Health Committee and sent to Codes, but was not heard on the floor. S7579 stalled in the Senate Health Committee.
