Professor Snead served as general counsel for the President's Council on Bioethics and also serves as one of two permanent American observers to the steering committee of the European Union Council on Bioethics. He served as delegation leader and chief negotiator for the United States delegation to UNESCO in Paris in 2005.

Professor Snead has delivered numerous lectures and presentations, nationally and internationally, in a variety of venues, both scholarly (including at Harvard Law School, Stanford Law School, and the University of Notre Dame) and popular. His popular commentary and analysis have appeared in the New York Times Magazine, the Washington Post, the Chicago Tribune, the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Times, the Baltimore Sun, the Indianapolis Star, the San Jose Mercury News, Wired, Washington Lawyer, National Review Online, Science and Spirit, Today's Catholic, and the National Catholic Register.
